Poetic Inspirations and Practical Applications for Blissful Living

Stop Doubting and Believe

Stop Doubting and Believe!

Guest Post by Heart and Soul Health Coach Mike Fenton

Things aren’t going your way? You’re not progressing along as quickly as you hoped; whether at work, school, or just life in general? We’ve all been there before, and we got through it, right? So why the doubt now?

Doubt has brought many to their knees because once we start doubting ourselves we start to lose faith in ability to overcome the situation, and once we stop believing, we lose hope. Life is full of many challenges and we may not win them all, but when the reason we did not win is because we started doubting in our own abilities to succeed, we have lost faith, and the result can be heartbreaking.

The reason(s) we begin to lose faith differs from person to person, just as the amount it takes for one to lose faith varies from person to person. It depends largely on your tolerance level and what you have going on in your life at the moment.

If you’ve started to doubt yourself and your abilities, here are some things you can do to get yourself back on track:

  • Write it down on paper, take an honest realistic view of things and write down where you’re at now, and where you want to be in whatever time increment you would like to experience this change. By taking an honest realistic view of things and writing them down, you focus on the things that mean the most to you.
  • Set goals and goal markers, once you’ve come to terms with what it is you want, make a plan on how you are going to get it. In the plan, set goals for when you want things to happen and goal markers that will let you know you’ve reached each goal.
  • Don’t overwhelm yourself, taking on too much at one time can sabotage our ability to accomplish things. Start with those things that mean most to you and give them your full attention.
  • Outsource, when its possible let someone else do the work! Using a virtual assistant can save you a lot of time and headache. There are many sites out there that do that type of work for a good price. www.fiverr.com  is an option, www.odesk.com  is another, and both sites are good. At home if there is a task you don’t care to do, hire someone else to do it and use your new found time to do something fun.
  • Believe, have faith that you can get the job done! If you have fears look to God to help you with them. Psalms 34:4 tells us if we seek the Lord he will answer, and He will deliver us from all our fears.
  • Reward yourself, as you start reaching your goals and are starting to make the changes you desired take time to reward yourself for making these accomplishments. It’s a good reason to celebrate and it gives you incentive to keep moving forward.

The above steps will help you become more organized and focused, which in turn will give you clarity of thought. By becoming more organized and focused we find even the most daunting task no match for us now!

“Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives”.

William James (1842 – 1910)

Biz Tip: Embracing Emotion

Embracing Emotion

Embracing Emotion

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is embracing emotion!

Emotions are a part of life and certainly a part of business too. Oftentimes we view painful emotions as “bad,” and it is no wonder why. They are uncomfortable at best and, at other times, downright heart-wrenching. Yet we are blessed when we embrace emotions, even the painful ones. Underneath the pain we discover treasures for our businesses and joy for our journeys.

How exactly do we embrace the good of “bad” emotions? Let’s explore five practical yet powerful steps:

  1. Resist running. When a painful emotion arises, do not judge it or run away from it. Allow it to surface in its fullness. Feel it completely and appreciate it for the gift that it is.
  2. Dig deeper.  Oftentimes our emotions have less to do with present situations than they do with past wounds. The current situation is merely a trigger to the emotion. Perhaps a situation triggers a feeling of abandonment, and this feeling is rooted in a situation of abandonment as a child. Or perhaps a situation triggers a fear of financial insecurity, and this fear stems from a childhood situation when there was lack. Pray about your emotions as you dig deeper to learn the true sources of pain. Study the Scriptures to savor verses of comfort based on the emotions you experience. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
  3. Heal with hope.  Having dug deeper, seek Jesus for healing. Place the situations and the people of both past and present into His hands. Forgive each person and wash every situation in His limitless love, forgiveness and mercy. Doing so consistently will bring peace, joy and clarity. “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
  4. Strategize your Steps. Having dug deeper and sought healing, look now at the current situation with clearer eyes and calmer heart. Determine your best reaction to the situation and people at hand; strategize proactive steps that support the highest good of all involved.
  5. Journey with Joy.  When we embrace emotion, dig deeper, heal with hope and strategize our steps, we discover that Jesus’ joy melts away our pain. Cling to Christ, seek His wonderful wisdom and immerse yourself in the joy of His holy heart.

I encourage you to follow wholeheartedly the Holy Spirit rather than emotion. Yet, in embracing the gift of your emotions, you can learn much about yourself, others and God Himself. You can grow in Christ via the chisel of painful feelings. Choose to find the good in your “bad” emotions, as doing so will boost your business, deepen your joy and enrich your journey!

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?

“I the Lord search the heart
and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.”

Jeremiah 17:7-10

“…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

When my heart is heavy,

When tears brim in my eye,

When I long like a bird

To escape and to fly,

When the way is dim,

When I am weak and weary,

When all about seems

So dark and dreary,

I see a glimmer

Of Your love-filled light,

Like the dawn of day

You shine through my night…

And my heart cannot help

But feel a surge of peace,

As into Your hands

All I am I release.

Every worry, every woe,

Every trial, every tear,

Every pain, every problem,

Every fight, every fear –

All I release

To You, Jesus, my King,

And I embrace the goodness

Your loving hands bring.

You pave my path

With bright light You shine,

You kiss away tears

With Your love divine,

You instill a song

Ever beautiful, ever new;

Yes, lovely is all You are,

All You say, all You do.

You make strong my bones

Once weak and weary,

You make bright the valleys

Once dark and dreary.

Yes, You restore the sparkle,

The pure joy in my eye…

Jesus, You are my light,

You make my spirit fly!

Step into Your Clients’ Shoes

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is stepping into your clients’ shoes!

It is very easy for entrepreneurs to get lost in the details of doing…marketing, follow-up, planning, paperwork, web site maintenance, administrative details, etc. Yet treading through these activities can blind us to the very reason we do what we do: to serve others. When we raise our awareness to this and conscientiously step out of ourselves and into our clients’ shoes, we discover not only new and happier clients but also deeper fulfillment and joy.

How exactly do we step out of ourselves and into our clients’ shoes? Let’s look at five practical yet powerful steps:

  1. Who are they? First ask yourself, whom exactly do you serve? How old are they? What are their passions and professions and hobbies? Are they single or married? Do they have children? What is their biggest problem? What brings them deepest joy? You can walk through a more detailed list in the Free 21 Day Attract Clients NOW Challenge.
  2. What do you solve for them? Thinking now about your ideal client, inquire of yourself what you solve for them. How can you alleviate their pain points? How do you bring value? As examples, specifically how can you save them time, increase their savings or income, improve their health, heighten their joy or deepen their intimacy with God?
  3. How can you communicate to them?  Once you consider your clients’ pain points and the value you bring, it is time to consider how to communicate to them. Step into their shoes and question where they will be online and offline. Perhaps at a single mothers convention? A Cub Scout meeting? A church event for couples? What words will resonate most strongly with them? What language will speak to them? The point of these exercises is not to manipulate but rather to compassionate…to truly feel your client’s heart in order to best serve her.
  4. Release to Receive. Release the concerns about your income and business deadlines into God’s hands. Worrying about such things only distracts from the higher purpose of serving. God promises to provide all our needs when we keep our eyes fixed on Him and His Kingdom. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) So serve with your gifts and with all your heart…and release to receive.
  5. Grow and Glorify.  Stepping into your clients’ shoes will allow you to not only grow your business but also glorify God. Serving others is surely a way in which you shine for His glory.

I encourage you to step into your clients’ shoes, let go of yourself to makes space for God’s grace…and bring glory to His Kingdom!

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

If you need help with stepping into your clients’ shoes or with building your business overall…I invite you to attract your ideal clients and powerfully boost your business over the next 40 days! There is no need to reinvent the wheel. I have organized my knowledge and experiences in business into an implementable 40-day series of actionable daily steps, instructional videos and powerful worksheets. If you need a serious boost in business, I encourage you to take the next step by visiting  Purposeful Pathway Business Academy today!

Let’s Pray: Faithful Father, we thank You and praise You for all You provide. Help us, Loving Lord, to love others as You have loved. Help us to step out of ourselves and step into our clients’ shoes that we may better serve them and more radiantly glorify you. We love you with every fiber of our beings, every moment of every day…and it’s in Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Health: Instead of New Year’s Resolutions – Baby Steps to a Healthier Life

Guest Post by 3D Vitality Health Coach Ann Musico

It’s almost the middle of February and my question to you is: So how are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions? If you are like the majority of people, most of them have been long forgotten as you settle back into your default behaviors. If you’ve read my blogs for any length of time, you know I favor taking “baby steps” to a healthier life. And it doesn’t matter how long you stay on each step – speed is not the point. Making each change a true lifestyle change is what really will make a positive impact in your life.

I did two interviews with Iron Jen last year where we discussed simple and easy tips to a healthier life – spirit, soul and body.  Here are the links for each if you’d like to listen: Interview 1 and Interview 2

If you are discouraged by your own lack of follow through and you still want to make 2014 your healthiest ever, don’t despair! It is only February. You still have the bulk of the year ahead of you. My suggestion is to decide what areas you feel need the most work and then list no more than 3 changes you would like to make. For example, let’s say you want to lose weight, which is #1 on most people’s list. Honestly assess your current habits. That’s the best way to see what you are doing that is contributing to the problem rather than moving you toward the achievement of your goals. (If you’re not sure where to begin, I can help.)

So let’s say you drink a couple of sodas a day, eat fast foods and carbs are your preferred food for every meal. (Don’t laugh, I knew someone who ate pancakes, pizza and pasta every day and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t losing weight!)  Anyway, my suggestion is to begin with one change – let’s take the sodas which if they are sugar-sweetened are empty calories and if they are “diet” sodas, will make you crave more sweets.  Anyway, make the quality decision that you will replace one soda with 16 oz. of water. That’s all.

Even if you drink 3 or 4 sodas a day and you only replace one for the next 2 weeks – consider that a victory and congratulate yourself! In fact by choosing to make one small, simple change over a two week period, studies have proven that people are better able to incorporate those changes long term. Once that becomes habit, replace the second one. Take as long as you need. As long as you are moving in the right direction, it will pay great dividends.

If you need help doing this I would be honored to help you. If you subscribe to my free, weekly No-Nonsense Nutrition Report, I will send you free, as my gift, my Simple Steps to a Healthy Life to help you get started!

How are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions?

“For thus the LORD has told me, ‘I will look from My dwelling place quietly Like dazzling heat in the sunshine, Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.’” ~ Isaiah 18:4

Cold it may be,

The winds may blow,

Yet wonderful the warmth

My heart does know,

Gray the skies,

Dark the clouds above,

Yet bright is the light

Of Your sweet love,

Wintry storms

May rage around me,

Yet calm I am

In arms of infinity…

Yes, cold it may be

In the world outside,

Yet warm I am

As in You I abide.

You, Lord Jesus,

Make summer the winter day

By the love You shine

On my pathway.

Your smile brightens

The dark winter sky,

Your song inspires

The birds to soar high,

Your love melts

The ice and the snow,

Your grace shows

The way I must go.

So I lift this song

To You, my King,

Yes, in every season

For You I sing.

I rejoice in the love

You endlessly shower,

In Your heartwarming graces,

In Your infinite power.

Though wintry storms

May rage around me,

Calm I am

In Your arms of infinity,

Though gray be the skies,

Dark the clouds above,

Bright is the light

Of Your sweet love…

Yes, cold it may be,

The winds may blow,

But Your heartwarming love

Is all that I know!

Always Sunshine

“He dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.” (2 Samuel 23:4)

Whether the snow falls

Or the sun does shine,

I feel in my heart

A song divine,

A presence peaceful,

A joy everlasting,

A happiness heavenly,

A treasured blessing,

A bliss beautiful,

A hope to endure,

A faith forever,

A love ever pure,

Yes, no matter the weather,

No matter what may be,

I feel heavenly happy

As Jesus is with me.

So come what may,

Snow, sun or rain,

Come what may,

Joy, laughter or pain,

I will sing,

Yes, I will sing with my all,

Rejoicing in music

Of my Savior’s call.

I will live for Him,

For His Kingdom and glory,

Yes, I will live for Him

And for His~story.

For Jesus gives to me

A hope to endure,

A faith forever,

A love ever pure,

A presence peaceful,

A joy everlasting,

A happiness heavenly,

A treasured blessing…

Yes, He gives me

A song divine,

So no matter the weather

It is always Sunshine!

Guest Post: SAD

SAD?

Guest Post by Heart and Soul Health Coach Mike Fenton

SAD

Image courtesy of marin / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

SAD?

During this time of year it is easy to become affected by what is known as “Seasonal Affective Disorder”. Typically a person will be affected by this during the same time each year, so if you get depressed during the winter months but feel much better during the spring and summer, you may have SAD.

It is most common among:

  • People who live in areas where winter days are very short or there are big changes in the amount of daylight in different seasons.
  • Women.
  • People between the ages of 15 and 55. The risk of getting SAD for the first time goes down as you age.
  • People who have a close relative with SAD.

Usually the culprit behind SAD is the lack of sunlight. It upsets the sleep/wake cycle as well as other circadian rhythms, which in turn causes problems with the brain chemical serotonin.

Most people that are affected by SAD will notice their energy levels are down, and they have less tolerance for normal daily activities. This is probably directly related to the interruption of the sleep/wake cycle I talked about earlier. Most folks are in a much better frame of mind when they have a good night’s sleep. Another sign of SAD is you will eat more and crave carbohydrates, such as bread and pasta.

It is difficult to tell the difference between non-seasonal depression and SAD simply because the symptoms are very much alike. If you are going to see a doctor to find out if you have SAD he will want to know if:

  • You have been depressed during the same season and have gotten better when the seasons changed for at least 2 years in a row.
  • You have symptoms that often occur with SAD, such as being very hungry (especially craving carbohydrates), gaining weight, and sleeping more than usual.
  • A close relative-a parent, brother, or sister-has had SAD.

If you are diagnosed with SAD your doctor most likely will prescribe light therapy. There are two types of light therapy:

  • Bright light treatment. For this treatment, you sit in front of a “light box” for half an hour or longer, usually in the morning.
  • Dawn simulation. For this treatment, a dim light goes on in the morning while you sleep, and it gets brighter over time, like a sunrise.

Light therapy works well for most people with SAD, and it is easy to use. You may start to feel better within a week or so after you start light therapy. But you need to stick with it and use it every day until the season changes. If you don’t, your depression could come back.

If you or someone you know is affected by SAD you can lessen its affects by keeping in good mental and physical shape, and by watching your diet. Make sure to fit that trip to the gym in your daily schedule, and if you are getting cravings for carbohydrates resist them, and choose something healthier to curb that carbohydrate crave such as apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon.

“I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances”.

Martha Washington (1732 – 1802)

“His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow…” Matthew 28:3

Snowflakes falling,

Brilliant and bright,

Clothing the earth

In radiant white,

Dancing blithely

In cold winter air,

Each with a song

To happily share,

Gliding gracefully,

Landing on the ground,

Such that white blankets

Everywhere abound…

And in the snowflakes,

As they fall ‘round me,

I see a promise of life,

A kiss of eternity.

For Jesus, my Jesus,

Speaks to me in the snow,

Whispering of wonders

I have yet to know:

In the cold of life

There is beauty too,

All things in due time

God does renew.

Yes, this season of snow

Will give way to spring;

In the winters of life

We find sweet blessing.

So let us remember

As snowflakes are falling

That our Lord Jesus

Is still to us calling.

His graces to us

Everywhere abound,

No less now than when

Salvation we found.

His love with us

Forever He does share,

Sweet is His love,

Rich beyond compare.

Yes, in snowflakes falling,

Brilliant and bright,

We feel the love of Jesus,

We see His eternal light!

Release to Receive

Release to Receive

Release to Receive

Release to Receive

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is release to receive!

One way to enjoy remarkable growth in our faith-based businesses is learning to receive. Our Loving Father desires to lavish us with blessings from His bounty. Yet how often do we stymie our receiving by clenching our spiritual fists? When we push too hard in our labors or when we cling too tightly to outcomes, we actually repel the act of receiving. Yes, it is important to plan, to give our best efforts and to be committed to highest results; yet it is equally important to release outcomes to God’s hands and to make space for grace.

How exactly do we release to receive? Let’s look at five practical yet powerful steps:

  1. Review. First things first: start with an honest review. Are there any areas in which you are pushing too hard or clinging too tightly to outcomes? Are there any areas in which you can open your hands to give more of yourself or your resources? Are there any areas in which you are spinning your wheels rather than seeking God’s grace? Ask God for His revealing light in these areas.
  2. Renew. Once you have reviewed, choose to renew these areas by God’s grace. Commit to Christ your desire to change; allow His Holy Spirit to spark the transformation.Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
  3. Release. Having reviewed and renewed, it is now time to release. Release control of outcomes; release stress about success; release fear about finances; release perfectionism in your projects; release excess items in your environment; release unhealthy relationships in your heart; release your anxieties to God. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
  4. Receive. Having released, be ready to receive. Open the hands of your heart to God and to others by giving; in doing so, you open your heart to receive from God’s bounty. “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)  And we know, as Jesus told us, to “give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)
  5. Rejoice. Remarkable are the love and providence of our Redeemer. Choose to rejoice in Him and in His grace! “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4)

Yes, release to receive…and rejoice all the while! I encourage you to be intentional in this practice for boosting your business and deepening your joy!

If you need help with releasing to receive or with building your business overall, I invite you to attract your ideal clients and powerfully boost your business over the next 40 days! There is no need to reinvent the wheel. I have organized my knowledge and experiences in business into an implementable 40-day series of actionable daily steps, instructional videos and powerful worksheets. Let’s Pray: Remarkable Redeemer, we thank You for Your perfect provision. Help us to release that which hinders our love for You and for others; strengthen us to let go of that which is not for Your glory. We choose to release these things in order to receive Your goodness. We love you with every fiber of our beings, every moment of every day…and it’s in Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
