Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is how to triumph in transition!

Part of the life journey and part of the business journey is transition. Growing involves change, and change involves transition periods. Transitions can be trials; it is challenging to feel comfortable when things are shifting and when the path is unclear. Yet transitions are also sources of triumph if we rely on God’s wisdom and strength. If you are ready to move up to the “next level” in your business or in your spiritual journey, remember that doing so rarely comes with smooth sailing. Embrace both the trials and the triumphs of transition.

How exactly do we experience triumph from transitions? Let’s explore five ways:

  1. Decide. Choose to grow. Decide that progressing to the next level is important. Embrace the changes that await you. Trust in God’s perfect plans for you: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
  2. Determine. Determine exactly what changes you will make, what expansions must happen, and what growth will occur. Document the quantitative and qualitative descriptions of these changes; how will you know when you have achieved them? Then pray about them; get excited about them; remind yourself frequently of them. “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” (1 Corinthians 9:24)
  3. Direct.  Having decided to grow and having determined your desired changes, delineate a timeline with actionable steps. Seek God’s wisdom throughout the process, as He is the ultimate Guide. “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
  4. Don’t turn back.  As you move forward with your action steps, keep your eyes straight ahead of you. “Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.” (Proverbs 4:25) When it seems everything and everyone is shifting around you, do not be alarmed. Do not panic. Do not turn back. People and experiences change when we do; it is only natural for others to react when we shake things up. It is easy for us to long for the comfort of “what was” when we are in the midst of uncomfortable transitions. Yet returning to “what was” keeps us locked in stagnancy. Remain focused on the next level and on God’s precious promises in order to move through the challenges.
  5. Delight. When you have reached the next level of your business growth or spiritual journey, pause amidst your progress and delight in the divine gift of your success. “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4) God is the Giver of good things. He is the One who makes triumphs of trials – and of transitions!

I encourage you to embrace seasons of transition with faith, courage and inspiration. Cling to Christ, and He will bring true triumph. He is our victory, and He is with us wherever we go. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Biz Tip: Balance Being with Doing

Balance Being with Doing

Balance Being with Doing

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is how to balance being with doing!

As entrepreneurs, we often feel a sense of joy and fulfillment when we accomplish task after task…after task after task. True to the name, business can keep us busy. Yet, as important as action is, there is beauty to simply being rather than constantly doing. We accomplish far more when we not only do what we need to do but also be who we need to be. God has called us not only to build His Kingdom but to also be His children. Beautiful is the fruit we reap when we balance being with doing.

How exactly do we balance being with doing in our businesses? Let’s explore five ways:

  1. Recall. Affirm who you are in Christ. Take delight in your Divine Daddy. Recall who you are by His grace. “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith…” (Galatians 3:26)
  2. Remind. Remind yourself frequently of who you are with visual cues. For example, write Bible verses on index cards; use Scripture verse screensavers on your computer; leave a sticky note in your car. Do everything you can to visually remind yourself of your identity in Christ.
  3. Relax.  Take purposeful pauses throughout the day to simply be. This practice has proven to be powerful in my life and in the lives of my clients.  Periodically still yourself for five to fifteen minutes in order to feel God’s presence and to hear His voice. Oftentimes we accomplish more in five minutes during quiet time with God than during hours at work. His whispers comfort us, guide us, enlighten us, redirect us and inspire us.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” (Isaiah 46:10)

4.      Re-assess. Ask God to reveal where you are pushing too hard; then re-assess these areas in your business. Ask “who do I need to be in order to achieve this goal in my business?” rather than solely “what do I need to do in order to achieve this goal in my business?” The Lord will direct you with His perfect wisdom. “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)

5.      Release. Release to God areas of struggle and imperfection. “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) Our weaknesses are windows to blessing if we allow them to be through faith and humility. God often works most powerfully through our challenges and shortcomings. Choose to release the struggle and to instead rest in Him. Choose to simply be in Your Beloved’s arms.

Bonus Step: Rejoice! Having traveled these five steps, rejoice in the refreshment, renewal and rejuvenation you find in beautifully balancing “being” with “doing.” Rejoice in the glorious grace, perfect peace and boundless blessings of Jesus. “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.” (Psalm 47:1)

Poem: Fresh Start

Fresh Start

Fresh Start

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Every morning,

Every day I live,

A new beginning,

A fresh start You give,

A clean slate,

A time to start anew,

A brighter horizon,

A lovelier view,

A sweeter song,

A lighter heart,

A happier vision,

Yes, a fresh start…

Every day,

Lord Jesus, my King,

A fresh start

To me You bring.

The woes and worries

Of the day before,

I can let go

In mercies You pour.

Each tear and trial,

Each problem and pain,

I let go to You

Again and again.

For You are new life,

You are joy and peace,

So into Your hands

Everything I release.

New beginnings,

Yes, a fresh start,

I find in Your love,

I see in Your heart.

A clean slate,

A time to start anew,

My sweet Lord Jesus,

I find in You.

Yes, every morning

A fresh start You give…

So every moment for You

I choose to live!
