Palm Sunday Poem: Hosanna!

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. ~ Zechariah 9:9 ESV

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Behold now your King!

Righteous and having salvation is He,

“Hosanna,” shout and sing!

Humble and mounted on a donkey,

The foal of a donkey is His seat;

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion,

Waves palm branches now to greet.

Your Redeemer and Your Salvation,

You see these before your eyes;

“Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is He,”

Let these be your cries.

For Jesus is your King,

He is your Redeemer, and He is mine;

Humble He is in appearance,

Yet crowned with eternal riches divine.

So let us rejoice together,

Let us sing with praise and exultation;

Let us waves palm branches,

Behold our Source of salvation.

Bitter the Cross He will bear,

Yet sweet the victory He will know;

He will rise from the dead,

The way to Heaven He will show.

Through His wounds we know life,

Through His bloodshed we are freed,

The mercies flowing from His heart

Richly fill our every need.

So come now, let us kneel,

Our King let us adoringly embrace;

Let us sing “Hosanna, Hosanna”

To the One who saves with grace.

Yes, rejoice, O daughter of Zion!

Behold now your King!

Righteous and having salvation is He,

“Hosanna,” shout and sing!

    Caroline,

    This time of year is filled with reasons to celebrate. Hosanna means “Oh save”. The people thought that Jesus was going to be an earthly king that would free them from the oppression of the Romans. He did much more than free us from our earthly bondage. He freed us from spiritual bondage and provided the way for us to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father and to live eternally. Hosanna in the highest!

    Have a Victorious Day!

      Sweet Marianne,

      Thank you ever so much for your insightful comment – and for singing “Hosanna!” with me! Jesus, true to His Holy Name, demonstrates that “the Lord saves.” How blessed we are to have eternal life through His stripes. Hosanna in the highest! Amen!

      May God continue to bless your beautiful heart for Him!
      Yours in the Joy of Jesus,

      Caroline
