Each day is an opportunity to move forward, to move back, or to stay right where you are. One of the things that can determine whether you decide to move in any direction at all is your perception of the successes you experience in life. If you feel as though you are being successful your tendency will be to keep moving forward, to climb higher mountains.

But what about when you are not moving forward and you are either moving back or staying right where you are? Circumstance can sometimes play a part in where you are and where you are going, but more often than not it is just an excuse because victory can be found in almost anything. Asking for and receiving forgiveness for the sins you have committed in the past is a victory which can be had anywhere, anytime! Isn’t that enough to make you feel comfortable enough to move ahead?

Are you putting too much emphasis on waiting for “earth shattering” results, while not spending enough time celebrating your small victories? By Living Out Victories Everyday you acknowledge even the smallest successes, which in turn helps you to feel as though you are moving forward.

However, Satan does not want you to acknowledge those accomplishments, he wants you listen to his lies. He wants to keep you weak because he knows that when you are in Total Wellness you no longer listen to his lies and you will continue to win your battles against him. You will then continue to spread God’s word and you become the Christian God wants you to be and the Christian the church needs you to be.

“With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.” Psalm 60:12. In Living Out Victories Everyday we experience a feeling of getting closer to God and our goals. Our victory does not have to be large, it only needs to be acknowledged by us. There is not a day that goes by that we cannot find something we are victorious over.

Living Out Victories Everyday helps bring our mind and our spirit into Total Wellness. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” Deuteronomy 8:17.

Do not let a day end without finding a victory (no matter how large or how small), one that you can acknowledge and be thankful for, because it is in those victories you will then move forward.

Guest Post: Weeds

Weeding Through the Garden of Life

Guest Post by Heart and Soul Health Coach Mike Fenton

Just as we must keep our garden free of weeds in order for our plants to grow healthy and strong, and with some produce fruit and vegetables, we must also keep our life free from those things that will not allow us to grow to our potential as well. Just as a weed will sneak its way into a garden and strangle out the healthy plants, there are things in life that will sneak their way into our world leaving us bewildered, confused and sometimes limiting us in our effectiveness to do God’s work. It may be subtle, but the result will be the same.

We must pay attention as we are reminded in Matthew 13:25 of what happens if we are not on guard “But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away”. In life that is how Satan operates, he plants his evil seeds in our minds hoping they will take root, strangle our faith, and in the end dampen our spirit. Even the strongest of men have fallen prey to his lies and deceit, men that were blessed by God with great physical strength were reduced to mere mortal men. We are reminded in 2 Peter 3:17Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position”.

If we are to have a chance that this will not happen to us we must live a life of Total Wellness. Our bodily actions must reflect a mind that is sound and in good health and a spirit that lives in God’s word. We must watch not only what we feed into our bodies, but what we feed into our mind. Using good judgment in what we watch on television, what books we read, what we see and do on the internet are good places to start in preventing those things that serve no good purpose from entering into our mind.

Weeding through the garden of life and eliminating those “weeds” that prevent us from growing into the Christians God wants us to be and the Christians the Church needs us to be is more important now than ever. We live in a time of apostasy and the call is now for all those in faith to come forth in strength. To come forth in Total Wellness – when mind, body and spirit all come together in good health.

Guest Post: Just Another Brick

Just Another Brick in the Wall

How easy it is to build a wall around ourselves when we don’t want to deal with the daily problems life presents? Rather than deal with a situation we build a wall to hide behind. From behind the wall we no longer see our problems and once they are out-of-sight, they are out-of-mind. The problem however is even though we no longer see our problems, they are still there. It is only when we face our problems and deal with our problems that they go away.

We cannot continually add more bricks to the wall thinking we are safe from the daily issues life presents us because at some time we will have to emerge from our haven and when we do, reality will set in. It is always better to keep confronting the issues life puts upon us, if we don’t they will only grow bigger and more difficult to handle.

If we cannot deal with the occasional problems that arise we must ask ourselves honestly, why am I having such a difficult time facing reality? Why do I run? Why do I hide? Why do I turn to drugs or alcohol to forget when I know my problems are still there? Running, hiding, turning to alcohol and drugs is not the answer and never will be. Faith in God is what we need! When we turn to Him and pray for direction and guidance, and when we turn to Him for inner strength, we will have what we need to deal with life’s obstacles.

Life also becomes easier when we strive to keep ourselves in good health (mentally, physically and spiritually) we find we have a higher tolerance for what bothers us and what is to come into our future. For instance, when we are in Total Wellness (when mind, body and spirit come together in good health) the things that used to bother us in the past no longer seem to be so bothersome. We find ourselves taking down the walls and telling life, come on, give me your best shot, I am ready.

When we take down the walls we find the view to be much better as well. We look at life from a much better perspective, our sense of “daily urgency” is not so great and we actually find time to quiet our mind in peace. We have time to enjoy the life we will now have.

Biz Tip: Netting from Networking

Netting from Networking

Netting from Networking

Netting from Networking

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is netting from networking!

Networking events can be powerful for business building. Yet so many entrepreneurs find themselves pouring tremendous time and energy while bearing little fruit in the process. They find themselves netting very little from networking…and so they give up.

It is, however, possible to enjoy fun and fruitful networking. Let’s explore five ways:

1. Go to give. As in all things, put others before yourself. Genuinely seek how you can serve others. When stepping into a networking event, pray for the grace to give. Heed God’s Spirit and look for the opportunities. “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” (Acts 20:35)

2. Inquire to inspire. People enjoy sharing about themselves and their businesses. Ask others about themselves and what they do; then listen with an interested ear. Embrace what you learn and contemplate how you can help with assistance, referrals or resources. “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger…” (James 1:19)

3. Create real relationships. Seek to build real relationships rather than to pass out business cards. Be more eager to receive business cards than to give your own; be more eager still to enjoy strong conversations rather than quick card exchanges. Truly connect with others; focus on quality rather than quantity.

4. Faithfully follow up. Faithfully follow up with phone calls, letters, emails and/or gifts. Thank each professional for his or her time and recall certain enjoyable parts of the conversation. Include your business card in mailings and your contact information in emails; always offer to help. “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” (2 Corinthians 9:6)

5. Give more, and do not give up. Often you will not reap fruit immediately from networking. Do not give up. Faithfully attend events with a giving heart and then faithfully follow up. In doing so, you will not only reap fruit but also have fun.

When you go to give, you will surely net from networking. “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” (Matthew 5:44)

Child, why do

Tears brim in your eye?

Tell Me why

In your heart you sigh?

Why do you let

These pains ever sting?

Why do you not

Give Me everything?

Look up, little one,

Look up now at Me,

For then how to love

You will clearly see.

When you are injured,

Choose then to love,

When you are hurt,

Set your eyes above,

When you are betrayed,

Love all the more,

When you are maligned,

Let your love pour,

When you are angry,

Let love be your release,

When you are upset,

Let love be your peace.

Yes, precious child,

Love to you I teach,

All the riches of My love

Are within your reach.

I promise to share

All that is Mine,

To love as I love

Is delightful and divine.

So let your heart

Be happy and light,

Let My love

Shine into your night,

Let Me shower

My riches of gold,

Let Me share with you

My secrets untold,

Let Me transform

Your winter into spring,

Let Me give you

My endless blessing…

Yes, let Me turn

To blue your gray sky…

Let love, love, love

Shine forever in your eye!

Biz Tip: Treasures under Triggers

Treasures under Triggers

Treasures under Triggers

Treasures under Triggers

Image courtesy James Barker at www.freedigitalphotos.net

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is finding treasures under your triggers!

Finding beautiful trails, waterfalls and vistas is among my favorite pastimes. Some of the prettiest views accompany some of the most challenging trails, but this is a fun part of the treasure hunt. Yet there is another treasure hunt that I have noticed as of late: finding the treasures hidden under my triggers. Yes, there are gorgeous gems hiding underneath those ugly emotions. Those very things that challenge, unsettle or upset us are valuable tools for uncovering wounds to heal deep below the surface…and to revealing beauty that God has in store for us.

How exactly do we find treasures under triggers? Let’s explore five ways:

1. Care to be aware. Be aware of the fact that you do have triggers. All of us live in a fallen world and have been wounded in many ways. Choose to discover your triggers that you may better understand your innermost pains. The next time you find yourself feeling threatened, uncomfortable, fearful, anxious, unsettled or any other “negative” feeling, decide to dig deeper. Choose to embrace the gift in the learning experience.

2. The task of asking. Once you discover a trigger, ask God what the feeling means. Is the source simply the situation at hand? Or is there more to the story? Commit to asking Christ for clarity, and He will surely reveal answers to you.“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)

3. Explore some more. Once God reveals to you past wounds, look at the past situations from a space of love. This will require prayer and grace. Choose to forgive the offenders, to embrace the experiences as part of your path, and to release any bitterness or anger. “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15) The deeper the wound, the more difficult this will be…and the more likely you will need to revisit this. Nonetheless, remember that “with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

4. Begin new behaviors. Having uncovered the wound and having forgiven the offenders, choose to see the current “triggering” situation from a new perspective. Likely it will not sting as much; your joy will deepen as you learn more about yourself, others and God. Your heart will expand as you choose to embrace every situation, even painful ones, as treasures. Choose to behave differently when these triggers arise; choose to pause purposefully before reacting; choose to proactively respond with love. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)

5. Release and repeat. The more you practice the previous four steps, the more you will release your past hurts and wounds to the Lord. “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22) That being said, expect this process to continue throughout your life. Repeat the steps and find refreshment for your soul. Both your growth and your joy will be phenomenal when you choose to find the treasures under your triggers.

I encourage you to find the treasures under your triggers to deepen your joy and boost your business. Often our business challenges stem from deep-rooted misaligned beliefs. Finding treasures under triggers is a beautiful, purposeful path to happiness and heavenly blessing.

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4)

Let’s Pray:  Timeless Treasure, Glorious God, we are so thankful for the treasures You reveal to us under our triggers. Alert: Miracles Ahead

Business Tip Miracles Ahead

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is preparing for miracles ahead!

Warmer days are here, and that means traveling trails with my children. Basking in God’s beautiful creation is a pastime we enjoy. As much as it is fun for us to return to familiar places, we also enjoy scoping out new ones. I have been amazed at how an unassuming and infrequently-traversed trail can lead to the most beautiful and rewarding of vistas. I have also found it interesting that the most gorgeous views often accompany the most challenging of hikes. Isn’t this true, too, in life and business? When we climb with persistence and hold out with faith, victorious vistas and marvelous miracles await us behind the bend…and success often lies in the most unexpected places.

How exactly do we prepare for miracles ahead? Let’s explore five ways:

  1. Recommit to renewal. Rarely do we experience beautiful changes in our lives without choosing to beautifully change ourselves, so commit to renewing yourself for God’s glory. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2) Visualize what renewal will look like in your life. Pray for wisdom and direction. Seek God’s grace and strength.
  2. Seek to stretch. Having recommitted to renewal, seek out ways to stretch yourself. What specifically can you change in your business and in your life? How can you shake things up in a positive way? What next step can you take to move beyond your comfort zone?
  3. Move forward with faith (not fear). Once you have determined how to stretch yourself, take the appropriate steps forward. Yet ensure that you do so not with a heart of fear but with a heart of faith. “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:6) We reap what we sow, and it is important to sow with faith. Check your emotions frequently. Are you moving forward with fear of scarcity or with faith in abundance? With fear of failure or with faith in success? With fear of obstacles or with faith in opportunities? Pray for increased faith if you sense that fear is your propeller. Ask God for boldness, vision and courage.
  4. Rise above resistance. Yes, there will be resistance – both internal and external – when you stretch and grow. Choose to rise above the resistance by keeping your eyes fixed on the goal of your transformation. “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14)
  5. Make room for miracles. Just as the loveliest vistas often follow the most challenging and unexpected of climbs, the most marvelous miracles often ensue the most painful stretches. Keep going. Keep moving. Keep stretching. God is allowing you to grow, and He will bless you with His graces. The more you choose to see His heavenly hand at work, the more you will see His miracles abound all around. “But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.” (Matthew 13:16)

I encourage you to stretch yourself, to move past your comfort zone and to rise above resistance…in order to embrace transformation and miracles.

“You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.” (Psalm 77:14)

Let’s Pray:  Miracle Maker, Glorious God, we are so thankful for the miracles You perform in our lives. Stretch us, Loving Lord, such that we grow for Your glory. Move us in the directions that will bring us closer to You. Lead us, Heavenly Healer, in the way that will sculpt us more and more into Christ’s image. Guest Post: Rise Up

Rise Up

Guest Post by Heart and Soul Health Coach Mike Fenton

The saying “when life hands you a lemon make lemonade” simply put, it means, that no matter how bad your day is getting, you should look for something positive to take from it. Life will throw us a lemon from time to time, the question is, how will we handle it when it happens? Will we rise to the occasion and make lemonade or will we say “oh woe is me” and just accept it.

When Jesus went to pray in The Garden of Gethsemane he was deeply troubled and frightened over what he knew was about to happen, let us revisit that night in Matthew 26:37-42    37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

Because of what Jesus did we now have faith and hope we will be spending eternity with him in Heaven. He gave this to us by rising to the occasion (in more ways than one). We may not always like what life presents us, but what matters most is how we respond to it.

April Reflection – Lord, I am ready and can rise to the occasion.

Biz Tip: Triumph in Transition

Triumph in Transition

Triumph in Transition

Purposeful Pathway is the haven for faith-based entrepreneurs. Part of my mission is equipping faith-based businesses with information that is practical, actionable and Scriptural.

The theme of this post is how to triumph in transition!

Part of the life journey and part of the business journey is transition. Growing involves change, and change involves transition periods. Transitions can be trials; it is challenging to feel comfortable when things are shifting and when the path is unclear. Yet transitions are also sources of triumph if we rely on God’s wisdom and strength. If you are ready to move up to the “next level” in your business or in your spiritual journey, remember that doing so rarely comes with smooth sailing. Embrace both the trials and the triumphs of transition.

How exactly do we experience triumph from transitions? Let’s explore five ways:

  1. Decide. Choose to grow. Decide that progressing to the next level is important. Embrace the changes that await you. Trust in God’s perfect plans for you: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
  2. Determine. Determine exactly what changes you will make, what expansions must happen, and what growth will occur. Document the quantitative and qualitative descriptions of these changes; how will you know when you have achieved them? Then pray about them; get excited about them; remind yourself frequently of them. “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” (1 Corinthians 9:24)
  3. Direct.  Having decided to grow and having determined your desired changes, delineate a timeline with actionable steps. Seek God’s wisdom throughout the process, as He is the ultimate Guide. “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
  4. Don’t turn back.  As you move forward with your action steps, keep your eyes straight ahead of you. “Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.” (Proverbs 4:25) When it seems everything and everyone is shifting around you, do not be alarmed. Do not panic. Do not turn back. People and experiences change when we do; it is only natural for others to react when we shake things up. It is easy for us to long for the comfort of “what was” when we are in the midst of uncomfortable transitions. Yet returning to “what was” keeps us locked in stagnancy. Remain focused on the next level and on God’s precious promises in order to move through the challenges.
  5. Delight. When you have reached the next level of your business growth or spiritual journey, pause amidst your progress and delight in the divine gift of your success. “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4) God is the Giver of good things. He is the One who makes triumphs of trials – and of transitions!

I encourage you to embrace seasons of transition with faith, courage and inspiration. Cling to Christ, and He will bring true triumph. He is our victory, and He is with us wherever we go. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

If you need help with transitions in your business or with building your business overall…I invite you to attract your ideal clients and powerfully boost your business over the next 40 days! Let’s Pray:  Our Loving Lord, our Treasured Treasure, we thank You for making triumphs from our trials of transitions. Help us, Divine Daddy, to see what we need to change. Help us to march forward courageously in our transitions. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on You and Your love. We love you with every fiber of our beings, every moment of every day, every step of the pathway…and it is in Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Guest Post: Spring Ahead

Spring Ahead

Guest Post by Heart and Soul Health Coach Mike Fenton

 Free Image Spring Ahead

We are at the time of the year when we move our clocks ahead one hour in lieu of daylight savings time, the days will become longer, and the feel of spring is in the air. It is time to say goodbye to “old man winter” and look forward to that first robin of the year to appear.

This is the perfect time to start planning the outdoor activities that will provide us with our exercise needs. It’s a good time to get the bikes in good working order, it’s also good time to clean-up the golf clubs if you’re a biker or golfer. This can provide inspiration for us to get outside and get some exercise.

Another way we can inspire ourselves into getting out and getting some exercise is to plan to participate in a charitable walk(s). This serves two very good purposes, first we get the exercise, and secondly we help raise money for a good cause. The schedule for most of the walks held during the spring/summer/fall seasons can be found on the internet.

Depending how active you have been throughout the winter will serve as a marker for where you should start. If you are a winter enthusiast and have remained active during the winter months you are probably ready to go. If on the other hand you have spent the winter relatively inactive there are a few things that we should take into consideration such as:

  • The length of time we spend walking/biking during our initial start. We want to start slowly and increase the time we spend walking/biking up gradually.
  • Distance, the same holds true with how far we walk or bike. Take short trips to begin with, and gradually increase how far you go.
  • Lastly, let’s not forget about our pets, the same holds true for them! Time and distance should be gradually increased when walking them if they have spent the winter relatively inactive.

It is important to keep things moving along at a slow and gradually pace because more people have given up on incorporating a regular exercise routine into their lives by starting out too quickly, injuring themselves, becoming disillusioned, and say the heck with this exercise stuff.

Exercise is also more fun when you have someone to do it with. Find a friend, neighbor or family member, they will provide company as well as to help keep you accountable on those days when you just don’t feel like doing anything! The truth is, it’s on the days that we don’t feel like exercising, that afterwards, we usually do feel better about ourselves.

Many folks that exercise on a regular basis find it to be addictive (what a great addiction to have) and are disappointed when they are unable to do so, that is why it is so important to manage our time. When you schedule something ask yourself, is this the time I normally go for my walk or bike ride or whatever form of exercise you do? Try not to break your routine, exercise for our bodies is as important as anything else, it sustains our bodies and provides us with energy.

“Nothing’s better than the wind to your back, the sun in front of you, and your friends beside you”.
Aaron Douglas Trimble
